Police in the province of Western Highlands in Papua New Guinea are investigating claims that some police officers have been helping criminals.

The provincial police commander, Superintendent Winnie Henao, has told the Post Courier newspaper if sources were aware of certain activities, then he would like them to come forward and give him the information.

Sources told the Post Courier that some policemen in the province had been involved with several top criminals to rob banks and kill foreigners.

Superintendent Henao said any police officer implicated in the investigation would be disciplined.
