Controversy in Fiji over the visit of another foreign evangelist

Fresh controversy has broken out in Fiji over the visit of yet another foreign evangelist, this time the American Benny Hinn.

Last week the Fiji government banned the Korean, Dr Sun Myung Moon, saying his doctrines were considered misleading, repugnant and divisive and would affect the peace, good order and the public morality of Fiji.

But the Cabinet has agreed to provided Benny Hinn, who is arriving next month, with VIP security at a cost of 50-thousand US dollars for the three days of his miracle crusade.

The Sunday Sun quotes the prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, as saying that as a Christian he will support any Christian events.

Bu the Methodist Church has called on the government to reconsider his security arrangements.

Its president, the Rev Laisiasa Ratabacaca, says Benny Hinn is a man of god and already has security from above.
