A Samoan lawyer says there have been no further talks since government doctors resigned en masse last month.

Maiava Visekota Peteru helped organise a recent public march to support the doctors in their claim for better pay and working conditions.

She says since then, the Ministry of Health has prevented some of these now unemployed doctors from holding free clinics on Savaii, claiming it's illegal.

But Ms Peteru says provided the doctors are members of the Medical Association they should be able to practise.

"Well I really am hoping that before the end of the year that the government would have a change of heart but it doesn't appear by this sort of action that has been taken. I just feel quite saddened by the turn and this development has been taken now - that the government would go to this extent to condemn a free service by doctors."
