Forecasters in French Polynesia have issued a heavy rain warning as a disturbance moves across the western Society, central and southern Tuamotu and Gambier archipelagos.

Squally showers and thunderstorms are expected with downpours of up to a hundred millimetres over the next 24 hours.

Winds are expected to gust up to 80 kilometres an hour.

Meanwhile, forecasters in Fij say a tropical depression north of Aitutaki in the Cook Islands is unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours.
