Police crack down on toy guns in Solomons

8:22 am on 17 December 2005

Police in Solomon Islands have warned that people who defy the ban on the sale, or display of toy guns, can face a fine of US$130 or a year in prison.

The Police Operations Commander in the capital Honiara, Edmond Sikua, has told Solomons radio that officers are enforcing the ban in compliance with the requirement of the Firearms Ammunition Act 2000 which prohibits import and sale of toy guns.

Mr Sikua says any toys which replicate real guns and pistols which police confiscate will be destroyed and those responsible prosecuted.
