New Caledonia's capital Noumea has earmarked some US$187 million for its 2006 budget.
The appropriation bill is to be tabled before the end of the month and submitted to the vote of the municipal council.
US$55.5 million are said to be dedicated to "investment".
The remainder is to be spent on the improvement of roads and highways, the construction of 22 new school classes, petty crime prevention and an ongoing town beautification project.
The budget will also rectify a long-time accounting discrepancy where for some years, a few salaries were miscalculated and underpaid by around US$3.5 million.
