Papua governor dies suddenly

The Governor of the Indonesian province of Papua Jacobus Solossa has died of a suspected heart attack.

Mr Solossa was 59.

A doctor at Jayapura hospital said Mr. Solossa died just after being admitted last night.

He had complained of respiratory problems.

Mr. Solossa was appointed the governor of Papua in 2000 after beginning his career as a legislator for the powerful Golkar Party.

He was seen as a tireless champion of regional autonomy for the province, and was to face his first regional election next year.
