The Fiji government will pay out millions of dollars in Cost of Living Adjustments to 24,000 public servants today.
The payments will be backdated to January 1st 2004 and total US$8.5 million.
The chief executives of government ministries will receive their Cost of Living Adjustments next week.
The payment follows an award given by the permanent arbitrator, William Callancini, even though the government wanted to replace it with its new Performance Management System.
Employees of the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority who are members of the Fiji Public Servants association will also receive a three per cent Cost of Living Adjustment today.
The association's general secretary, Rajeshwar Singh, says they signed an agreement with the authority early this year that the permanent arbitrator's award would also apply to its employees.
Meanwhile, employees of the state-owned company, Airports Fiji Limited, will receive a bonus as well as their Cost of Living Adjustment following a record profit of US$4.2 million.
