The leader of a pro-independence party in French Polynesia, Charlie Ching, has been sent to jail for a month after scuffling with police in Bora Bora.
The news agency Tahitipresse reports Ching and a group of landowners were protesting inside the Hotel Bora Bora on Saturday and became involved in a brawl with police.
A court in the capital Papeete sentenced Ching to one month's imprisonment for obstructing people's freedom to move and work.
Ching, the long-time president of Te Taata Tahiti Tiama party, had several brushes with the law in the 70s.
He's since run for a seat in the territorial assembly many times, but without success.
