It's been confirmed that Samoa's general election originally timed for February 24 has been postponed to March 31.

The postponement was announced by Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele on state television.

The Prime Minister said that the postponement was to allow more time for the registration of voters.

The decision to delay the election was made at an emergency cabinet meeting last week.
