US funding for Marshalls college hangs on facilities

7:30 pm on 29 December 2005

The tuition of more than 6-hundred students at the College of the Marshall Islands will be at stake when the US Western Association of Schools and Colleges meets in California next month.

The association will consider whether plans for a new 21 million US dollar campus are enough to maintain the college's accreditation status.

More than half of the budget of the college is received from US federal sources through accreditation.

Officials from the Western Association have said the college's existing campus is below the standard of colleges currently accredited in other US-affiliated Pacific Island states.
