The Chief Executive of Cook Islands Tourism believes complaints from some of the countries dominate business sector that marketing is being focussed on the wrong countries is ill founded.

The complaints prompted the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development to call for a survey to look into tourism spending patterns.

However, Chris Wong, says the marketing spend is almost the same for the southern hemisphere as is for the northern.

"What people have to understand is that we only have three flights a week between Rarotonga, Tahiti and Los Angeles, and those three services cater for the whole of the American market, whereas in the case of New Zealand, earlier last year, we had 17 flights a week."
