Vanuatu's state airline sacks senior manager

The Board of Directors for Vanuatu's state airline has sacked the former finance manager, Richard Holstein.

Mr Holstein's contract with Air Vanuatu ran out at the end of last year, but he was appointed to a new position as projects manager.

A letter from the board's acting chairman, Yoan Mariasua, has been leaked to the Daily Post newspaper, in which he states to Mr Holstein that his new position never existed within the company's structure.

Mr Mariasua requested Mr Holstein to surrender all company properties and vacate the Air Vanuatu office accordingly.

Air Vanuatu was criticised last month over its handling of a dispute with a union over the sacking of 45 employees last year.
