The international journalists' organisation, Reporters Without Borders, has voiced its support for a Kiribati journalist, Taberannang Korauaba, who was alleged to have been wrongfully dismissed from Radio Kiribati.
The organisation says it is highly regrettable that the management of a public news media should fire a young journalist who is motivated to inform his country's inhabitants.
Last month, Radio Kiribati executives gave Mr Korauaba 24 hours to reveal his sources for a report about a case of corruption involving the auditor-general.
When he refused he was fired.
Mr Korauaba has decided to sue the government for wrongful dismissal.
Reporters Without Borders has called on Radio Kiribati to reinstate him.
