American Samoa's LBJ hospital to start cutbacks this week

Staff of the LBJ hospital in American Samoa expect a cut back in working hours to go into effect at the end of this month.

The Hospital authority Board has yet to release an official statement on decisions reached at its meeting on Tuesday but senior hospital officials have said that from the end of this month, working hours for non medical staff will be cut by one hour per day from Tuesday to Thursday.

This will amount to an 8 hour reduction per pay period.

Between 40 and 50 employees will lose their jobs this week.

Reports from the hospital say that employees affected by the elimination of non essential jobs know who they are and are expecting their letters of termination
