Cyclones cause minimal damage to Niuatoputapu in northern Tonga

11:12 am on 17 January 2006

Reports from Tonga's northern island of Niuatoputapu says damage suffered there owing to Cyclone Urmil was minimal.

Radio Tonga reports damage in Niuatoputapu was limited to some gardens and some fruit trees, especially breadfruit and banana trees.

It didn't lead to the postponement of Education Sunday celebrations on the island.

Cyclone Urmil followed quick on the heels of Cyclone Tam, and a correspondent says this meant the people were prepared.
