French Polynesia assembly to ponder euro introduction

The speaker of the French Polynesian assembly, Antony Geros, has outlined the agenda for the extraordinary session planned for later this week.

According to the Tahitipresse news agency, the assembly will initiate discussions of the possible introduction of the euro as the currency in the French Pacific territories which include New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna.

The money currently used is the Pacific colonial franc.

The assembly will also look at creating two so-called country laws which the assembly can adopt under the autonomy statute granted by France.
