In the Solomon Islands, Maniwiriwiri villagers in the Makira Ulawa Province have requested a police presence following incidents of unlawful activities relating to logging.

A community source said the conflict is between the supporters and opposers of logging.

The source said the anti-loggers, especially women and children have been verbally abused and threatened.

The Solomon Star newspaper reports some villagers want the company CTP International to stop operating because it is causing disparity in the communities, and damage to the environment which includes a local water source.
