The caretaker Minister for Infrastructure and Development in Solomon Islands, Alfred Sasako, is working to get zero fees at secondary schools.

He says he is concerned that thousands of potential students are being turned away each year because families can't afford fees.

In a statement, the SIBC reports he stated that tuition fees in high school is a crime and high school boards are violating the rights of young people to an education.

Local tuition fees in secondary schools range from one-thousand dollars to four-thousand dollars per student.
