Mt Hagen hospital in Papua New Guinea runs out of drugs

The Mount Hagen general hospital, in the western highlands of Papua New Guinea, has reportedly run out of drugs and patients are being asked to buy their own drugs at pharmacies.

The Post Courier newspaper says last week about 200 patients petitioned the hospital management over the lack of drugs.

The protesters also complained about a lack of medical equipment, and patients not seen on time.

The director of medical services, Dr Peter Bamne, denies there is a lack of medical equipment and says he will investigate the allegations of patients not being attended to in a timely manner.
