A court in French Polynesia has dismissed a case against the former head of the now dissolved GIP intervention force, Leonard Puputauki, over a work-related accident.

The case had been brought by the widow of a GIP employee, Clement Hapipi, who died in 1999.

She alleged that Mr Puputauki's was responsible for the incident but the Tahitipresse news agency says the judges found that he was not liable for staff safety.
