Police from three north Pacific nations to join Solomons assistance mission

11:57 am on 2 February 2006

Police from three north Pacific nations will join the Australian-led peacekeeping mission in Solomon Islands in the coming weeks.

Two Marshall Islands police officers will join officers from Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia.

None of these three US-affiliated nations has a military force, nor have they been involved in regional or international peacekeeping efforts.

Two Marshall Islands police sergeants are to leave Majuro in the second week of February for several weeks of training in Australia before beginning a six-month deployment to Solomon Islands.
