Papua New Guinea's Foreign Affairs Minister, Sir Rabbie Namaliu, is to visit Solomon Islands this weekend.

After arriving in Honiara, Sir Rabbie will meet the Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza before officiating at a ceremony at the PNG High Commission.

The following day he will visit the base of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, or RAMSI, for briefings.

The special co-ordinator to RAMSI, James Batley, says it's an opportunity to thank Papua New Guinea for their contribution to the mission.

"PNG provide not only a contingent of police, they also on rotation provide soldiers for Ramsi and there are a number of Papua New Guinean civilians working on the civilian side of Ramsi, so I'll be keen to say to the minister that their contribution is very valuable, certainly from my perspective, and I think it's perceived by Solomon Islanders themselves as very valuable too."
