The Forum Fisheries Agency is to form closer ties with the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission
The Director-General of the Forum Fisheries agency Feleti Teo says the two agencies are meeting in Honiara today for discussions.
Mr Teo says extra funds from aid donors and member countries has boosted financial support for the FFA to assist with its new strategic plan.
He says they can enter a new phase of cooperation with the Tuna Commission.
"One of the items we'll be discussing is a memorandum of understanding defining levels of looking at better cooperation between us."
Feleti Teo says both organisations will have to balance the needs for Pacific Island countries to conserve and manage the tuna stocks while still allowing access for distant water fishing nations.
