New Zealand warns Fijians of firm promising jobs

New Zealand's Immigration minister is warning people in Fiji to be wary of handing over money to a company reportedly promising jobs picking apples in New Zealand.

David Cunliffe says New Zealand immigration officials in Suva are warning Fijians to be cautious following reports that Pooz Travel World is charging up to NZ$2,000 in return for a job.

Mr Cunliffe says there is no need to go through a consultant or travel agent in order to work in New Zealand, and people would be better off approaching the New Zealand High Commission directly.

He says once they find out they are eligible, then prospective workers can contact an immigration consultant to put together a case, but not everybody will be eligible.

"If you know that you're not, why waste your money, that's my point. I don't like to think that people are being taken for a ride, if according to these reports, that has happened, then that's not a great thing."
