A Samoan MP and former police officer has called on the government to pass legislation allowing police officers to be armed.
Patu Ativalu says he's concerned for the safety of officers attending the increasing number of drug raids that involve weapons.
The Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele, says once police officers are armed it would be too easy to pull the trigger.
He has told parliament that arming police would be against biblical principles, and that the present system of using fa'asamoa while on duty was working well.
The prime minister said legislation was being drawn up to address the issue of weapons, and to control guns being imported into the country.
