9:13 am on 21 February 2006

In Fiji, the family of a stillborn baby plans to bury an empty coffin today because Lautoka Hospital authorities have lost his body.

The Fiji Times reports that the male baby was born prematurely a week ago but when relatives went to collect the body from the Lautoka Hospital morgue yesterday, officials could not find it.

The 23-year old mother's elder sister, Anaseini Lewatabe, says they will have to continue with the funeral today even though the body is missing.

She says if the baby's body is found, they will have another funeral ceremony.

The general manager of Lautoka Hospital, Dr Eloni Tora, says they have called in the police to investigate the disappearance of the body.
