Hotel tipped to boost Solomon Islands employment

A multi-million dollar Honiara Resort Solomons Limited is expected to boost employment opportunities for Solomon Islanders.

The Chairman of the resort Poot Hin Chen has told the Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation that locals Islands will benefit from the establishment through increase tourism and other spin-offs.

Mr Chen says they are looking at about 600 workers for both the casino and the hotel.

He says because the hotel is to be run by an International Management group, it is a very unique project, the first of its kind.

Mr Chen says Solomon Islanders will have the opportunity to participate in the resort development by taking up apartment space which will be part of the hotel group, and they will continuously receiving benefits from there.

He says the company hope to complete the first two phases of the development which will cost over US$19 million over 15 months.
