Samoa's Attorney General, Brenda Heather Latu, says government contract workers, including Chief Executive Officers, may not take special leave to stand in the elections.
The decision would affect at least three candidates in the upcoming poll.
The Samoa Observer reports the Attorney General informed the Public Service Commission last month that under the Electoral Act, public servants are entitled to special leave to contest an election as a candidate.
But that privilege does not extend to public servants who are contract workers.
Brenda Heather Latu has recommended that the Public Service commission set a policy for special leave for elections for contract workers.
