A report in American Samoa says the government has dropped drug charges against a man convicted for murder.

Richard Majhor was found guilty of killing Wyatt Bowles Junior in a case which has caused widespread interest in the territory.

Majhor and his wife Diane were arrested in 2003 in connection with the disappearance of Mr Bowles.

A month later, the police searched their home at Ili'ili again and found methamphetamine.

The newspaper, the Samoa News reports the High Court has now dismissed charges for Majhor in connection with the find.

Majhor is to be sentenced on Friday local time for murder.
