The European Union has provided an additional 12 million US dollars to the Pacific region to assist with economic, fisheries and agriculture programmes.

The deal for the extra funding for the Pacific Regional Indicative Programme was signed in Fiji by the European Commission's Director-General of Development, Stefano Manservisi, and the Forum's secretary general, Greg Urwin.

Mr Urwin thanked the European Union for its generosity.

Mr Manservisi says the package recognises both the region's needs and performance over the last four years.

He says the 35 percent increase in funding will enable the EU to continue supporting the Regional Programme in key areas such as EPA negotiations, tuna stock assessment and agricultural trade facilitation"
