Banned Australian businessman wants to re-enter Solomon Islands

The banned Australian businessman Geoffrey Moss says he wants to re-enter Solomon Islands.

Last month the caretaker minister of commerce Walton Naezon issued a prohibition order against Mr Moss.

Mr Moss is the director of an Australian company, Pacific Natural Resources Ltd that wants to invest 80 million US dollars to build a timber mill in Solomon Islands.

Mr Naezon claimed Mr Moss had no money to invest, the proposal was completely unrealistic and the required guarantees exposed the Solomon Islands to unacceptable risks.

But Mr Moss says the basis of allegations made against him are unfounded and that the minister has discarded his responsibilities to foreign investors.

In a signed statement obtained by the Solomon Star newspaper, Prime minister Sir Allan Kamakeza said Mr Naezon had issued the prohibition order without prior consultation.
