Fiji High Court to hear Labour Party election writ tomorrow

6:59 am on 29 March 2006

The Fiji Labour Party's writ seeking to delay or review the dates of the May general election has gone before the Suva High Court.

The FLP lawyer, Anand Singh, has told Justice Roger Coventry that the Elections Office and the Electoral Commission have failed to follow the mandatory requirements of the law in the registration of voters.

Mr Singh said Labour wanted amendments to the electoral rolls and more time to file further evidence.

Justice Coventry has given Mr Singh until this morning to file affidavits after which he will hear the case tomorrow.

The Electoral Commission is represented by a former supervisor of elections, Jon Apted.
