American Samoa government planning to upgrade telecommunications

The American Samoa Governor is forging ahead with plans to connect American Samoa with an undesea fibre optic cable.

Governor Togiola Tulafono says while he was in New Zealand for the Pacific Trade Expo, he met with Southern Cross officials.

Southern Cross has two fibre optic cables that go to New Zealand, Fiji and Australia.

American Samoa plans to hold discussions with the Fijian telecommunications company that owns the facility which houses the Southern Cross landing in Fiji.

Officials of a US company which has expressed interest in establishing call centers in the territory say they cannot move forward on plans without instantaneous telecommunications.
