Elections set to go ahead on Solomon Islands Malaita after boycott rumours

7:37 pm on 4 April 2006

The elections manager in the Solomon Islands province of Malaita, Harold Leka, says there are no grounds to rumours that the elections tomorrow will be boycotted.

Mr Leka has reported to the government communications officer that preparations for the elections are well in hand and nothing would disturb it.

He says all materials needed for the poll have arrived despite claims to the contrary.

His comments came after rumours circulated in Honiara that ballot papers and other election kits had not reached their Malaitan destinations.
