Intense lobbying in Solomon Islands for the Prime Minister's job

10:16 am on 13 April 2006

Intense lobbying among the newly elected 50 MPs for who should become the new Prime Minister and form the new Government is continuing in Solomon Islands.

No names of any candidates for the position of Prime Minister had reached Government House as of Tuesday afternoon

Nominations closed yesterday and Government House is expected to announce the candidates for Tuesday's election of the Prime Minister.

So far the partners in the previous Government have been holding separate meetings with their leaders.

Former Opposition political parties and groupings have also been talking to each other about strategies to form a new government to topple the Kemakeza coalition government.
