4:31 pm on 19 April 2006

New Caledonia's Goro Nickel company says nobody has been injured and nothing has been damaged in a new attack on the Goro site yesterday.

Kanak activists caused millions of US dollars in damages on the Goro Nickel site about two weeks ago and more clashes at the site between police and Rheebu Nuu activists happened yesterday.

Police says all blockades have been cleared and a Goro spokesperson, Catherine Guillaume, says yesterday's attack has been harmless.

"The gendarmes, the local police, has asked the protestors to stop their blockades and so it happened with no injuries and nothing like that. So we are happy that no injuries have happened."

Catherine Guillaume.

The pro-independence FLNKS movement has started mediation talks with Rheebu Nuu and Ms Guillaume says the company is optimisic that they will be successful mediators.
