Samoa Police Commissioner, Papali'i Lorenese Neru, says the construction of new police headquarters will help boost the performance of the ministry and earn police more respect from the people of Samoa and overseas countries that the ministry works with.

Groundbreaking for the new headquarters was held last week in Apia during the one day visit of Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.

Construction for the estimated 12.6 US million building is to begin in June and the new headquarters should be opened by the time of the 2007 South Pacific Games which Samoa is hosting.
