The Australian Justice Minister, Chris Ellison, says the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands plays an important role in restoring law and order, and maintaining the democratic processes in Solomon Islands.

Mr Ellison has been in Honiara today and met the care-taker government and the opposition group.

He says the meeting has been productive and RAMSI will continue to work along with the government that will be elected next week.

He also says they have discussed issues of corruption and the need for the election to proceed according to legal and democratic means.

The minister says there is broad support for the continued presence of RAMSI in Solomon Islands.
