Samoa politicians file counter petitions over election results

Samoa's new Minister of Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Mulitalo Siafausa, has filed a counter petition alleging bribery and treating against the Samoa Party leader Su'a Rimoni Ah Chong.

The government minister is the first respondent in Su'a's petition.

As Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia reports from Apia, there are also another three counter petitions, resulting from March's elections, ahead of Thursday's court mention of the ten petitions already been filed.

"One of the counter petition has been filed by the newly elected Member of Parliament for Faleata West constituency, against former Minister of Police UluVaomalo Ulu Kini. MP Lealailepule RimoniAiafi is the first respondent in Ulu's petition. He alleged the former minister had committed bribery and treating during the election. Meanwhile, re-elected HRPP MP Leao Talalelei Tuitama, first respondent, has also filed a counter petition against Togia'i Fuatau of Va'a o Fonoti constituency. The MP is accusing his rival of bribery and treating. Another counter petition has also been filed by new Opposition MP for Aleipata Itupa I lalo constituency, Paepae Kapeli Su'a against his petitioner Tautoloitua Farani Posala. Sor far, seven counter petitions will be heard in court."
