Fiji's prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, says indigenous Fijians do not want to see the Labour leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, as the next prime minister of the country.
Mr Qarase has told Radio Legend that many Fijians have told him how they feel about Mr Chaudhry becoming the next prime minister.
Mr Qarase says while he cannot speak for all indigenous Fijians, the impression he gets while travelling around the country is that they do not want Mr Chaudhry and would prefer an indigenous person.
But Mr Chaudhry says racial comments should be disregarded because many indigenous Fijians now want him to become the prime minister.
Mr Chaudhry the general election is not about Indians or Fijians but about the people of the country who need to unite to tackle the many problems facing Fiji.
Mr Chaudhry says he also travels a lot around the country and many indigenous people have come to him and openly said that they are really frustrated and want a change.
