A cultural festival, modeled after a successful yearly Hawaiian festival, is due to be held on Tahiti in November as a new tourism promotion event to attract more visitors to French Polynesia.

Tahitipresse reports that the festival will be held in Faratea from the 20th to the 25th, where cultural delegations from throughout the Polynesian Triangle are expected to meet.

The triangle is formed by Hawaii to the north, Easter Island to the east, New Zealand to the south and Tonga to the west.

The Tahitian representative with the Maohi Native Cultural Festival in Hawaii, Teamo Alan Rua, says such an event will bring many tourists to the territory.

The Finance Minister, Jacqui Drollet, says he appreciates the originality of this festival.

He says he thinks it will not only attract tourists, but also bring Polynesians closer together.
