Air Niugini to increase international fuel charge

2:44 pm on 22 May 2006

The Papua New Guinea National flag-carrier, Air Niugini, is to increase its international fuel surcharge, effective today.

The Chief Executive, Wasantha Kumarasiri, told the PNG National Broadcasting Corporation, that this is in response to the continuing escalation of crude oil and jet fuel prices, and is also in line

with the surcharges of other airlines in the region.

The fuel surcharge would increase by 17 U.S. dollars and 25 cents.

Mr Kumarasiri said Air Niugini is paying a world record price.

He said the prices paid for jet fuel reflect both the posted price per barrel in Singapore, applied under Import Parity Pricing by the supplier, and the cost of freight to, and distribution within, PNG.
