A international team of politicians and leaders is in Solomon Islands this week running an induction course for members of parliament.
The United Nations and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association programme was planned before the recent riots in Honiara.
One of those on the team, opposition New Zealand First MP Ron Mark, says it's hoped it will help new and returning Solomon Island MPs to get a clearer idea of how to do their jobs.
"The aim of the programme is to encourage greater understanding of public leadership, constitutional frameworks, accountability, transparency and parliamentary oversight amongst both the sitting and newly-elected members."
Mr Mark, who visited Solomon Islands recently with the New Zealand Defence Minister, Phil Goff, says opposition MPs need to learn how to investigate government activities.
And he says the programme will teach MPs in cabinet the type of scrutiny they should expect to come under.
