Vanuatu has received high praise from Cuba for its opposition to the economic blockade imposed against the small communist state by the USA.

The Daily Post reports these remarks were expressed by Cuba's new Ambassador to Vanuatu, Jorge Rey Jimenez when he presented his credentials letter to Vanuatu's Head of State Kalkot Mataskelekele last week.

Ambassador Jimenez says it is a very high honour for Cuba to have the friendship and respect of Vanuatu, which has always supported Cuba against the US blockade.

The Ambassador passed on President Fidel Castro's most sincere and best wishes for prosperity and the well being of the people of Vanuatu.

In response President Mataskelekele says Vanuatu recalls with great gratitude the help it got Cuba in gaining independence in 1980.
