Fiji post election tourism prospects better

The post-general election prospects for Fiji's vital tourism industry are looking much better.

The chief executive of the Fiji Visitors Bureau, Bill Gavoka, says they were worried that the second quarter would be weak.

The Fiji Times quotes Mr Gavoka as saying the worst is behind them and June is looking extremely positive with a boost in airline bookings.

Apart from the apprehension before the general elections, Mr Gavoka has identified the stand-off between the military and the government, and the introduction of the hotel bed tax which was changed into a turnover tax, as factors which affected tourist numbers.
