The general manager of COS Samoa Packing in American Samoa, Herman Gebauer, is retiring from the company after more than 30 years with the cannery.

His retirement takes effect immediately, but Mr Gebauer has agreed to provide consultancy services to the company to ensure a successful and smooth transition.

He began work at the cannery in 1971 and became the first local general manager in 1997.

A statement from the company says Mr Gebauer has the distinction of having the longest tenure of all Samoa Packing general managers to date.
