Passengers who were on board Thursday night's Hawaiian Air flight from Honolulu to Pago Pago say that the male traveler who assaulted a flight attendant was a Samoan in his early 30's.
A passenger who did not wish to be named said the suspect punched a male flight attendant.
He said that an announcement was made that the flight would be returning to Honolulu because a passenger was experiencing an illness.
When the plane touched down at Honolulu Airport , officers from the sheriffs department and federal agents boarded the plane and removed the suspect.
A Hawaiian Air spokesperson Keoni Wagner says the case is now under investigation.
No information is available on the condition of the victim.
