Permanent secretaries at all government ministries in Kiribati are now employed under a three-year contract.

President Anote Tong has told parliament the terms and conditions of employment and says their pays have been raised to just above 11,000 US dollars a year.

Mr Tong was responding to parliamentarian MP Tamwi Naotarai amid rumors that the package is too luxurious.

The positions are seen as specific the most competitive jobs in Kiribati's public service.
