The US Department of Education's Office of Inspector General has released a report to Congress highlighting cases of corrupt officials in two states and American Samoa.
American Samoa is referred to briefly in the report which identifies three former government officials sentenced for their roles in a bribery, conspiracy and fraud scheme.
The report says the trio defrauded the USDOE, American Samoa and other federal agencies by subverting procurement processes and illegally awarding and distributing goods and services intended for the American Samoa School District.
Their sentences ranged from 30 months in federal prison to five years probation and 1,000 hours of community service.
The three were also fined a total of 214,000 US dollars
